What’s Little Cartref like?
This cute little Airbnb has everything you could possibly need for a short break. The one-bedroom property is fully detached, has a great enclosed garden and the hosts, Sarah and Simon, live right next-door. Little Cartref is around a 10-minute walk from Tenterden High Street.
How dog-friendly is Little Cartref?
Good. No special provisions are provided for dogs so you’ll need to bring your own beds, bowls and food but pets are welcome throughout the property. Ernie and Stan loved exploring the secure garden, which has a patio area with table and chairs, a large expanse of grass with sunloungers and lots of sweet-smelling established plants. There is no additional charge for dogs to stay.

This light and airy property is a haven of peace and tranquility that is ideally located for exploring the delights of Kent and East Sussex. And from the moment you walk through the gate between Little Cartref and the main house next-door, you will have all the space to yourself – from the property to the enclosed garden and the patio area right outside.
You enter into the spacious living area, which has a vaulted ceiling and wood-effect flooring. A fully equipped kitchen takes up one half of the space (keep reading to find out more) while the rest is occupied by a corner sofa that doubles up as a second bed. This is positioned in front of the TV and guests will also find some board games, a selection of films and a bluetooth speaker for them to enjoy.
At the front of the property is the luxurious bedroom, which also has a vaulted ceiling and – most importantly – a very comfortable kingsize bed. Wooden shutters help ensure a good night’s sleep and there is also plenty of storage. A large shower room is located at the other end of the property and complimentary toiletries are provided. There is parking for one car directly outside.
What’s the food like at Little Cartref?
This is a self-catering property so you’ll need to bring your own but Sarah and Simon left lots of bits to help us settle in. There were all the essentials, like tea, coffee and condiments, plus milk, orange juice, biscuits, crisps, Belgian waffles and little jars of jam and marmalade. We were also chuffed to discover a couple of beers, miniature bottles of wine and soft drinks waiting for us in the fridge!
The kitchen, while compact, has everything you need to cook up a storm, plus handy gadgets like a coffee machine and ice maker. If you’d rather eat out though, just head to Tenterden High Street, where there are tons of dog-friendly options. Brunch & Brew does excellent breakfasts and lunches, while This Ancient Boro serves delicious tapas. The Woolpack, The Old Dairy Taproom and The White Lion all welcome pets too.
Are there resident dogs at Little Cartref?
Yes. Black lab Forrest and Cyprus pointer Bruce live in the main house next-door but we didn’t see or hear them at all during our stay. In fact, if Sarah and Simon hadn’t mentioned them in the welcome pack, we would never have known they were there!
Where are the best dog walks near Little Cartref?
Just a few metres away from the property, you’ll find a gate that leads into the surrounding fields. Ernie and Stan loved going off-lead here and handily, there is a poo bin right by the gate. You will also find a woodland, pictured above, within a few minutes’ walk of Little Cartref – ideal if you visit during the summer months and are looking for a nice, shady spot to enjoy a walk. Tenterden High Street is approximately a 10-minute stroll from Little Cartref and, as high streets go, it’s really rather lovely. Dogs are welcome in many of the shops and there is a large recreation ground at the top end where they can enjoy a good run. A number of National Trust properties are close by, which always make for nice walks. And the beautiful beaches of Camber Sands are around a 25 minute drive away.
