What’s Sanderling House like?
This modern two-bedroom home has been beautifully decorated by Louise and her daughter Zoe. It is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and is a 10-minute walk to Bracklesham Bay. Chichester and the gorgeous West Wittering Beach are just a short drive away.
How dog-friendly is Sanderling House?
Excellent. A dog bed and bowls are provided, and there is also a box of toys with everything from balls to plushies, tug toys and filled bones. There are already throws on the sofa, so you don’t have to worry about taking your own, and there is also easy access to a beautifully designed secure garden. This is all paved so you won’t need to clean up after muddy paws either! Up to two small dogs are welcome to stay for no additional charge.

There is a cool, coastal theme throughout this two-bedroom property. Downstairs, you’ll find a light and airy lounge/diner complete with vintage furniture and cosy throws. That opens out into a gorgeous garden, complete with hammocks, wooden garden furniture and plants that thrive by the sea, such as palms and grasses. A stylish blue-grey kitchen is located at the front of the house (keep reading to find out more) and there is also a handy downstairs loo.
Upstairs are two large double bedrooms – one of which has an en-suite – and a lovely family bathroom. These are all simply but beautifully decorated with lots of little nods to the local area, whether that’s in the wall art or seasidey stripey towels. The bathroom has colourful Mediterranean-style tiles and underfloor heating, too. The rest of the house has parquet-style flooring throughout, which looks and feels really smart.
There’s a great selection of books and board games to keep you busy on rainy days, excellent WiFi and a very professional-looking guide to the local area with lots of suggestions for things to see and do. Sanderling House has two parking spaces right outside and electric car charging facilities are available for a small additional fee. Be aware that the house backs on to a caravan park – but this was absolutely no problem when we visited.
What’s the food like at Sanderling House?
This is a self-catering property so you’ll need to bring your own, but guests will find a great selection of tea, a coffee machine and some complimentary biscuits to get their break off to a good start. The kitchen itself is very well-equipped, with all the usual gadgets you’d expect and a great selection of cups, glasses, crockery and pots and pans. There is also a Nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher, radio and a whole host of recipe books for inspiration.
If you don’t fancy cooking though, there are lots of excellent dog-friendly options nearby. Goat Coffee Co, a short walk from the house, serves great coffee, cakes and light bites. Billy’s on the Beach, which overlooks Bracklesham Bay, is a fine spot for breakfast or brunch and there are a whole host of pet-friendly pubs and cafes in the nearby Witterings, too. Ernie and Stan got lots of fuss at the Drift-Inn Surf Cafe and The Lamb Inn is the perfect country pub.
Are there resident dogs at Sanderling House?
Louise and Zoe have a cockapoo called Cookie but you probably won’t meet him during your stay – unless you specifically ask to do so!
Where are the best dog walks near Sanderling House?
West Wittering Beach, around a 10-minute drive from Sanderling House, is one of the biggest, and most beautiful, beaches in the country. You really can walk for miles along this vast expanse of sand but be sure to take in the rugged dunes of East Head, pictured above. Seasonal dog restrictions apply and there are hefty parking charges all year round (£15 in the summer!) so I recommend going out of season when it’s more affordable – and quieter. There are plenty of good walks to be had closer to the house, too. Bracklesham Bay is around a 10-minute stroll from the front door and is a great place for dogs to let off some steam. While the beach is predominantly shingle, you will find some sand if you visit at low tide. And RSPB Medmerry – just around the corner from the house – is a lovely place to enjoy a peaceful walk and go bird watching. There are 6.25 miles of trails around the nature reserve, which winds through wetland and flood plains down to the beach.
