What’s the Old Town Oasis like?
As the name suggests, this peaceful two-bedroom annexe is located in the heart of Eastbourne’s Old Town. It is fully self-contained and has everything you could possibly need for a short break, including a sunny patio area. Host Arabella lives just behind the property, should you need anything during your stay. Eastbourne seafront is approximately a 30-minute walk.
How dog-friendly is the Old Town Oasis?
Good. No special provisions are provided for pets but dogs are very welcome to stay – for no additional charge. The aforementioned patio area is fully enclosed (once the gate is shut) and is a real suntrap, too.
Tell me more about the Old Town Oasis
This modern two-bedroom annexe is gorgeous, and surprisingly spacious once inside. You enter into the light-filled living area, which has a green velvet sofa as the focal point and a colourful rug. There’s also a smart TV and industrial-style lighting, softened with wood and wicker furniture and feature plants. A fully-equipped kitchenette runs across the back wall (keep reading to find out more) and there is also a space-saving dining table that seats four.
A stylish double bedroom is located at the front of the property, decorated in soothing natural tones of white, cream and blue. There’s a wooden bedframe, round mirror and on-trend open wardrobe – and you’ll find the exact same set-up in the second bedroom too, although with twin beds. The monochrome bathroom at the back is a real delight too, with a huge walk-in shower enclosure and shower gel personalised for the Old Town Oasis.
The property has excellent WiFi and the patio area outside – which is fully enclosed and adorned with fairy lights – is a great place to sit and enjoy a coffee (or something stronger) on a sunny day. Arabella will happily pop round with things like buckets of ice and extra kitchen items, if needed. Free on-street parking is also available. We had no problem getting a space right outside during our three-night stay.
What’s the food like at the Old Town Oasis?
This is a self-catering property so you’ll need to bring your own, but a few basics – like tea, coffee and sugar – are provided. There is also a good range of cupboard essentials you might otherwise forget, such as cooking oil and condiments. The modern kitchen, while compact, has everything you need to cook up a feast and there are lots of pots, pans and crockery hidden away in clever storage compartments. I loved the concrete splashback too – very cool!
If you don’t fancy cooking though, there are lots of good, dog-friendly options for eating out nearby. The Two Bulls Steakhouse, housed in a beautiful old pub called The Tally Ho, is just a five-minute walk away. The building is also home to El Changarro, which serves excellent Mexican street food. There are several pet-friendly pubs within easy walking distance too, including the 12th Century Lamb Inn and The Rainbow.
Are there resident dogs at the Old Town Oasis?
No, but Arabella’s Siberian cat Mia may well pop by to say hello.
Where are the best dog walks near the Old Town Oasis?
Where to start?! Eastbourne is home is a huge number of parks and green spaces and Gildredge Park, pictured above, is one of the best. It is approximately a 10-minute walk from the Old Town Oasis and here, you’ll find a mix of woodland, open fields, tennis courts and ornamental gardens, not to mention two excellent cafes. The park is a great place to let your dogs have a good run and meet lots of the local pooches.
Beachy Head – a must-visit when you’re in the area – is also nearby. Enjoy a bracing walk along the cliffs at this renowned beauty spot, on the South Downs Way, and look out for the colourful red and white striped lighthouse. Just don’t get too close to the edge!
