If you ask me, you can never have too many mini versions of your dog – and I love this needle felted take on Ernie. As his fur is so white, he is often compared to a little sheep so having a woolly replica of him to sit on my desk is just perfect.
Needle felting is a meditative craft that involves using special barbed needles to turn wool fibres into 3D sculptures. And Laura, of Digla Illustration and Felting, mastered the art during the pandemic.
To have Ernie’s mini-me made, all I had to do was send Laura a few pictures that clearly showed his face. Then, just a few weeks later, the finished product arrived at our door. Needle felted animals also make great gifts!
Laura, who named her business ‘Digla’ after her two dogs, Digby and Shula, says she loves the fact she can bring people joy by creating felt replicas of their beloved pets. And as well as needle felting, Laura also specialises in pet illustrations that are available as prints and cards.
Her custom needle felt animals stand approximately 4in high and cost £26 each. Laura can also make custom keyrings and Christmas decorations for as little as £14. Personalised pet portraits start from £45.
